Ronno is the secondary antagonist of the 1942 animated film Bambi, and the main antagonist of its 2006 midquel Bambi II

Personality[]

Ronno is not a very kind deer. He is a bully, a braggart, a liar, a coward, and a wimp, and has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

He's disrespectful to everyone, including his own mother, by accusing her of constantly interrupting him when he's trying to "make new friends," but he screams: "Mommy!" whenever he's in dangerous situations.

As a fawn, Ronno made his first appearance just after the Groundhog announced it was Spring. He develops a crush on Faline, and he even picks a fight with Bambi.

Bambi did fight Ronno after he taunted him about his father sending him away with Mena, and Bambi him, but when Man and his hunting dogs showed up, Ronno ran away screaming: "Mommy!"

Later, Ronno tells Bambi they'll meet again, which they did as adults in the first film.

As an adult, Ronno shows up and challenges Bambi to another fight, because he still wants Faline as his mate, but Faline always hated him, because he was a bully. Ronno also hated Bambi out of extreme jealousy, because he was the son of the Great Prince of the Forest.

Bambi fights back when Ronno starts using his antlers to force Faline to go with him, and Bambi eventually knocks Ronno off the cliff and into the water.

Appearances[]

Bambi[]

In the first movie, Ronno first appears from inside a bush while Bambi and Faline are frolicking together on "Cloud 9." Even though Ronno doesn't speak in the film, his actions do. Ronno gives Bambi the most monstrous look, and he again uses his antlers to force Faline against her will to go with him - whether she liked him or not. Ronno knew that Faline always hated him, because he was a bully, but he didn't care.

Faline desperately yells: "Bambi!" several times. Angry and fed up with Ronno's bullying from their childhood, Bambi charges at Ronno, and the two of them engage in another fight. After Ronno knocks Bambi down several times, Bambi eventually knocks Ronno off the cliff and into the water. Afterward, Ronno leaves, and it's unknown whether or not he died of his injuries, was shot to death by Man, or was burned to death in the forest fire.

Bambi II[]

Ronno2

A teenage Ronno in Bambi II.

In the midquel, Bambi II, Ronno has a regular role, and he talks. While Bambi and his friends were watching the Groundhog, the Groundhog didn't see his shadow. While singing "Let's Sing a Gay Little Spring Song" and celebrating, Ronno scares him back into his hole yelling: "BOO!" and laughs while the other animals leave in disappointment, but he stops them and introduces himself. He then tells them that he saw a Man, and butted him with his antlers. This is clearly a tall tale he pulls just to garner respect.

Faline, who knows that it is impossible for a fawn to defeat a man, politely and without offending Ronno says it was unbelievable, though with noticeable sarcasm in her voice. Bambi, who really believes that Ronno had done such a feat (as a testament to his innocent naivety), thinks it is unbelievable too, though he says it in awe. Ronno gets the idea that Bambi doesn't believe him, and is hinting at him being a liar. He challenges Bambi to a fight. Thumper tells Bambi to clobber him. Ronno continues to goad Bambi by insulting his name: "Bambi? Isn't that a girl's name?" and laughing, insisting that Bambi spar with him while backing him up against a tree. Just before they start fighting, Ronno's mother calls him and he reluctantly goes with her yelling: "MA! How many times do I have to tell ya, don't bother me when I'm trying to make new friends!" and she answers: "Sorry, Dear."

Ronno also develops a crush on Faline, and he tells Faline about himself, but Faline still believes Ronno isn't what he claims to be and shows clear displeasure in his company. She hears Bambi screaming and rushes to check on him. Ronno is furious that Bambi was garnering Faline's attention away from him, and he decides to insult him. Ronno even uses his sprouting antlers to force Faline against her will to go with him, and Bambi yells: "Leave her alone!" When Ronno tries to pick another fight with Bambi, Thumper pushes Bambi forward, trying to encourage him to stand up to Ronno, and Bambi accidentally knocks Ronno down into the mud. Shocked and furious, Ronno chases Bambi and Thumper and while chasing them, Bambi eventually jumps over a large chasm and Thumper calls Ronno "a big baby," after seeing him shaking and hiding away in the bushes. Bambi and Thumper then see Bambi's father, the Great Prince of the Forest, and Bambi admits to him that he jumped, and he is shocked and impressed: "I didn't make a jump like that until I had antlers." As they leave, Ronno tries to jump, but falls into a mud pit.

He shows up again during the song "First Sign of Spring" while running with the other deer in the forest, and he taunts Bambi with a raised tail and a haughty facial expression before taking off. When he sees Bambi's father run past him, he gives an awed: "Whoa!" and his expression changes to anger and jealousy after Bambi runs past him. Ronno speeds up, and tries to outrun Bambi, but the his father encourages him to catch up to him, and Bambi outruns Ronno and catches up to his father, leaving him shocked and well behind with the rest of the deer.

He shows up later and taunts Bambi while he's going with Mena to her home, saying that he wanted to say goodbye, he thought they were pals, and he really felt sorry for Bambi having a father that was so ashamed of him, he'd give him away. This makes Bambi angry enough to fight back, and he knocks Ronno down. Outraged, Ronno gets up and pushes Bambi into Mena, and she gets caught in one of Man's snare traps. She tells them to get out of there immediately in a panic, and the bell on the trap immediately alerts the hunters and their hunting dogs in the distance. Ronno runs off screaming: "Mommy!" but Bambi stands where he is, frozen in fear until Mena repeats his mother's last words before her death. Determined not to let history repeat itself, Bambi fights back against the hunting dogs, and his father arrives and frees Mena from the snare trap.

Later, Ronno shows up and tells Bambi they'll meet again, and he trips on a turtle, which snaps and bites his nose. Ronno screams: "MOMMY! GET IT OFF! MOMMY!" and he runs away, and Flower says: "See? I told you turtles were scary." Everyone laughs.

House of Mouse[]

Ronno made two appearances in the series. In the episode "Goofy's Menu Magic", he can be seen waiting on the line for some of Goofy's soup. In "House of Genius", he was seen waiting to be seated when Donald and Daisy were sleeping on the job. Although Ronno does not appear in Mickey's House of Villains, it is believed that he took part in the takeover.

Similarities with other Disney Villains[]

  • Scar: Both are the main antagonist of one film (Ronno, midquel; Scar, first film) and the only darker fur in their group, same senses that fighting their enemy (for Ronno, Bambi; for Scar, Simba), then falls a great distance. Also, both have a strong heart of jealousy; Ronno is jealous that his rival Bambi falls in love with Faline and she returns his feelings and that Bambi's father is the great prince; however, Scar is jealous that his nephew Simba can be king of pride rock but he can't. They both like fame. Both want to marry the deuteragonist/protagonist's love interest (Faline for Ronno; Nala for Scar). However, Scar only wanted to marry Nala in a deleted scene.
  • The Ringmaster: Both are the greedy antagonist of the 1940s films (The Ringmaster) and the only characters who despise their enemy (for Ronno, Bambi; for The Ringmaster, Dumbo), Also, both The Ringmaster and Ronno end up getting soaking wet.
  • King Oberon: Both the main antagonist of film and televison (Ronno, midquel; King Oberon, Sword Art Online episodes), have power of darkness, (for Ronno, Bambi; for King Oberon, Kirito) both greedily married (Faline for Ronno, Asuna for King Obreon) but fail to marry!
