Carnage is one of Spider-Man's most dangerous foes. He was once known as Cletus Kasady, a serial killer. While Kasady was incarcerated, the Venom symbiote gave birth to another symbiote, which then fused itself into Kasady's bloodstream, thus creating Carnage. For this reason, Carnage is referred to as Venom's "son". He strongly believes that the world is made of chaos and that law and order are a perversion. He also has somewhat of a rivalry with Venom, as the latter thinks that only he (Venom) should get to kill Spider-Man.
